ART
Thrilled to announce that my piece Paradise Grind is currently on display at La Luz de Jesus Gallery, a legendary space that helped define Lowbrow art. Lowbrow, also known as Pop Surrealism, is an art movement born in California that blends elements of humor, irreverence, and pop culture with a surreal, dreamlike edge. It’s a genre that challenges traditional notions of fine art, making space for the weird, the personal, and the deeply imaginative.
Paradise Grind embodies this spirit, telling a story that’s both raw and surreal. On the surface, it’s a colorful depiction of skateboarding in a tropical paradise. But at its core, it’s a statement about resilience, transformation, and the afterlife. After enduring a spinal injury and being diagnosed with an incurable disease, this piece reflects my journey of confronting mortality and finding beauty in what comes next. The skeletal figure skating through paradise represents a sense of freedom, release, and perhaps a new kind of life after pain.
Lowbrow art has always been about pushing boundaries, and Paradise Grind uses its playful, vibrant aesthetic to explore heavy themes of survival, acceptance, and the unknown.
Having this piece featured at La Luz de Jesus, a gallery that has championed groundbreaking and deeply personal works, is a huge honor. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, I hope you’ll stop by and experience Paradise Grind for yourself.
